    Technology Law

Technology law includes those standards that aim to control technology. Technology law serves to promote technology on the one hand and to limit technology on the other. The promotion of new technologies is achieved in particular through intellectual property rights. These rights (together with license agreement law) also ensure the dissemination of technologies. Technology risks are limited by safety law and allocated by means of liability law. At the same time, risk management is carried out in particular by means of obligations to circulate.

    Current research questions concern

    • liability for new technologies (e.g. autonomous driving), including the dogmatic civil law foundations (traffic obligations),
    • the role of trade secrets,
    • the question of the subject matter of modern technology law (Technology Law 4.0),
    • “Legal Tech”.

Technology Law deals with legal issues concerning how-to-control new technical inventions. A distinction needs to be made between IP Law that mainly enforces the development of new technology, Security Law that diminishes the risks and Liability Rules that mainly consist of codes of conduct.

    Current research focus:

    • liability for new technologies (e.g. self-driving vehicles) including dogamtic principles (codes of conduct),
    • the role of trade secrets,
    • questions on the subject of modern Technology Law (Technology Law 4.0).
